As
a development from her high fired ceramic sculptures, Meri Wells creates
large scale, environmental installations, usually incorporating fire in
some way.
The
exciting fire sculpture "White Horse" was cut into a Mid Wales
hillside and measured 30 metres square. Each night for a week the spectacle
was repeated as the horse's outline was set ablaze.
As
part of her theatre design work Meri was deisgning the set and costumes
for the Welsh National Opera's production of "Mis Bach Du".
IN conjunction with this project Meri cut a pattern of spirals and lines,
inspired by local carved celtic stones, into a beach in West Wales.
This
fire installation measured over 200 metres and covered virtually all the
area in the small bay and the completed work was clearly visible from
the surrounding cliff tops until the next tide restored the natural order
of the foreshore.
